What to watch for (12/12 WKND): Foot Locker Nats and the return of indoor

We have a big weekend ahead of us! Cross country wraps up in San Diego and indoor track is back! The long summer and fall wait for sprinters, throwers, jumpers, hurdlers, and vaulters is finally over. Here's a look at what we have on tap for the 12/12 weekend:

Cross Country:

Foot Locker Nationals (Balboa Park, San Diego, CA)

Pennsylvania has a pair of representatives in San Diego for Foot Locker Nationals. For the boys, Central Bucks East's Jake Brophy will look to improve on his 25th place performance at this meet last year. The senior is familiar with the course layout and has big hopes for Saturday's race.

On the girls' side, Madeleine Davison, who ran unattached for all of her 2015 XC season, is fresh off a victory at Foot Locker Northeast at Van Cortlandt Park, New York two weeks ago. She was 40th a year ago. She said after FLNE that she feels fresher this season and it wasn't hard to tell with the way she closed at Van Cortlandt. Davison will look to hang with some of the pre-race favorites and represent the Northeast and PA well.

A reminder that you can watch both the boys and girls Foot Locker Nationals races live on MileSplit on Saturday. The girls' race goes off at 12:15 EST and the boys' race follows it at 1pm EST

Indoor Track & Field:

Friday 12/11/15 - DVGTCA Indoor Meet #1 (Lehigh University - Philip Rauch Fieldhouse, Bethlehem, PA)

The sprints will be FAST this weekend. We'll get our first look at Cheltenham's Chanel Brissett (Preseason 60m #1) in the 60 meters. Morristown's Jayana Webb (Preseason 60m #4) will be on the line in the 60 as well. In the 400, Springside Chestnut Hill's Brooklynn Broadwater (Preseason 400m #1), the indoor state champ in the event, will look to get off to a fast start. Cheltenham's Alexis Crosby (Preseason 400m #3) will give chase to Broadwater.

The distance side will be fun, too. In the 800, we'll get our first look at what could be the next sensation in PA, freshman Amy Willig of Great Valley. Not familiar with her? Willig ran a 2:18 800 meter at the John Hay Memorial Distance Festival as only an eighth grader (!!!) (here's the video of that race).

In the girls mile, we have something that could generate some buzz. Maddie Villalba (Preseason Mile #20) of Central Bucks West, last year's PIAA AAA state champ in the 800 will move up in distance, coming off a solid XC season in which she grabbed a medal at states. Great Valley's Anna Willig and Ridley's Jamie Green will also be in the field. The 1000 meters should generate some interest with Penn Wood's Terri Turner, Notre Dame's Mikayla Schneider and Penncrest's Diana Dunn in the field.

In the field events, Souderton's Moira O'Malley (Preseason HJ #2) will look to get a good early season clearance in. The long jump will be highly contested with reigning state champion Madison Langley-Walker, a Cheltenham sophomore and preseason #3 will do battle with preseason #1 from Archbishop Ryan, Alison Jones. Garnet Valley's Nina Gambacorta (Preseason SP #3) and Neumann Goretti's Janese Lynch (Preseason SP #5) will also be debuting in the shot. In the triple jump, the outdoor state runner-up Uche Nwogwugwu of North Penn and Council Rock South's Emily Yemm will square off.

Saturday 12/12/15 - TFCAofGP Meet #1 (Lehigh University - Philip Rauch Fieldhouse, Bethlehem, PA)

Stay tuned as we take a look at some of the boys athletes competing at Lehigh University tomorrow.

Saturday 12/12/15 - Ursinus College High School Open (Floy Lewis Bakes Fieldhouse, Collegeville, PA)
