One of the weekend's closest competitions should be the AAA girls' pole vault.

Five vaulters in the field have cleared 12-6 or better this season and it should set up an exciting battle.

The District 11 duo of Greer Gumbrecht (Easton) and Rachel Finn (Liberty) are co-PA-AAA#1s having both cleared 12-9 this season. They've seen a lot of each this season and states will be their final showdown.

Council Rock South's Dominique Franco is coming around at the right time. After a quiet start to her season, the senior cleared 12-7.5 to win at SOLs and then 12-6 to tie the District 1 meet record. She's ready for another big week.

East Pennsboro's Paige Ritter has easily been the most improved vaulter this season. After an indoor PR of 11-4, Ritter has since gone over 12 on three occasions, including a 12-7 clearance at Mid-Penns to take the win.

Laurel Highlands' Cassandra Phelan is another improved athlete. The indoor runner-up will look for a similar effort this week after a big 12-6 win at District 7.

Will it take a 13+ clearance to win it?
