Wiltrout Returns! National Record Holder Throws US#1 At West Mifflin

After her first invitational of the season, Connellsville's Madison Wiltrout is back on top of the nation. The senior javelin thrower threw 163-2 at Saturday's TSTCA Outdoor Championships at West Mifflin High School.

Wiltrout, who holds the national record at 185-8 from 2015, had her best javelin series since the PIAA State T&F Championships during her sophomore year. Wiltrout had serious surgery on her throwing arm after that season. Last year, her best throw was 158-0.

Saturday was Wiltrout's second 160 foot-plus throw of the season. She had another in an earlier dual meet. Her throw at TSTCAs of 163-7 is the current US#1. The University of North Carolina signee told PTXC's Phil Grove that she's finally out of the long rehab stage post-surgery.

"I've relearned everything---not that I've forgotten it all," Wiltrout said after Saturday's meet. "Taking so much time off, it's a little hard to come back, but I've done that and I'm trying to better everything I've learned years ago."

Saturday was a big day for other Pennsylvania javelin throwers, too. At the Susquehanna High School Classic in Selinsgrove, Mount Carmel Area's Maura Fiamoncini threw a PA#2 and US#3 157-5 and Millville's Morgan Bower threw a PA#3 and US#6 151-11.
