AAA Boys' Javelin Preview

The 2016 Class AAA javelin final was loaded with seniors as 12th-graders filled eight of the top ten places and 14 of the top 17. Hayden Fox of Hempfield Area was fourth a year ago at 197 feet, 5 inches and returns on the strength of a 202-10 throw at Baldwin last week.

Also a state qualifier in the pole vault, Fox is one of only three AAA throwers over 200 feet this year and is No. 2 overall in the state heading into this year's finale. He should know the all-weather runway well as his 206-8 rocket in late April came at Shippensburg in the Jack Roddick Invitational.

Warwick's Eric Garner was ninth last year at 187-10 and carries AAA's No. 2 mark into Shippensburg. He joins Fox as the only competitors over 200 at the district level, with a PR of 202-7 from earlier this month making for an interesting final indeed.

LaSalle College senior Noah Walker was 21st in 2016 and returns as the final 200-plus thrower in AAA so far this year at 202-0.

If last week's results are any indication of this weekend's performances, District 7 could dominate the podium. Four of the top 7 in this year's field threw at Baldwin, and the top 6 there hit at least 180-0, with Greater Latrobe's Austin Butler having hit 197-5 this year off an 18th place in 2016.

Also returning is Penn Manor's Alexander Scheivert. The junior threw 198-4 two weeks ago.
