PA Heat Up Again: Week 6 Meet Recaps

Ridgway Invitational - Meet Recap

GIRLS RECAP

Little has stood in the way of Saint Marys Area's Amanda Foster this season. On Saturday, Foster claimed her third win of the season going 19:28 for the win. She beat out Saint Joseph's Catholic's Sera Mazza, who took second in 19:40.

It was also 27 seconds faster than what Foster ran last year at the District 9 meet on Ridgway's course. That should bode well for the senior, who has asserted herself as the one to beat in D9-AA this season.

Saint Marys Area proved they'll be tough to beat for the team district title this season. After Foster Saint Marys put in next four from spots 11 to 16 (separated by ten seconds) to lead to a dominant team performance. They scored 36 points for the win. Cranberry was second with 101 points, just ahead of third place Mercyhurst Preparatory.

Karns City's Rebecca Pennington was third in 19:57, whole Northern Potter's Amanda Ford was fourth in 20:55. Chelsea Hunt of Elk County Catholic was fifth in 21:01.

BOYS RECAP

After Elk County Catholic beat Bradford Area by 20 at Bradford's home invitational, the gap was much closer this time around. ECC took the win 79-81 over Bradford, as the teams got a look at the District 9 course.

Up front, Ben Hoffman claimed the individual win, his second of the season, winning in 16:50 by seven seconds over Bradford's Logan Caruso. Both of those boys are the likely favorites for D9 individual titles with Hoffman in 1A and Caruso in 2A.

Smethport's Darion Gregory was third in 16:58 and Ridgway's Nicolas Heredero was fourth in 17:02. Isaac Wortman supplied a good finish, taking fifth in 17:20 for ECC. Carter Kauffmann led the way for Saint Joseph's Catholic, placing sixth in 17:22.

ECC was without one of its usual top five runners in Logan Hoffman. His presence would have helped ECC's gap.
