Mid-Penn Conference Championship - Meet Recap
GIRLS RECAP
Taryn Parks showed on Saturday at Big Spring that she's still on the right track, and could even be ahead of schedule from her state championship freshman season.
The Greencastle-Antrim sophomore outlasted Chambersburg's Abby Yourkavitch in a mad dash to the line to capture her second straight Mid-Penn title. It was a race that didn't include PA#1 Marlee Starliper of Northern. Parks ran 18:21, almost ten seconds faster than her winning performance on the same course last season. Yourkavitch placed second in a time of 18:27.
We hadn't seen Parks in action in about a month (when she placed seventh at Oatlands in Virginia). But Saturday was a sign that Parks is ready to try and give Starliper a run for the District 3-AA title in two weeks back at Big Spring.
Saturday was also a nice improvement for Yourkavitch, who ran 18:43 at Mid-Penns last year.
Hershey's Andrea Demko was third in 18:42, Carlisle's Meg Lebo was fourth in 19:11, while Central Dauphin East's Makenna Krebs took fourth in 19:20.
The team win went to State College Area for a third straight season. Led by Cailin Saylor and Emma Simon, State College scored 75 points for the victory. Hershey was second with 91 points and Carlisle was third with 96 points.
