Another Pennsylvania star will not be competing at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships because of injury.
Wissahickon's Ahmir Johnson has been ruled out competition for next week after injuring his hamstring this past weekend, coach Don Betterly confirmed Monday. Johnson suffered the injury on what turned out to be his final attempt in the long jump at Saturday's TFCAofGP Meet of Champions at Lehigh. He still ended up winning the event with a leap of 22 feet, 10 inches.
Johnson, who is currently ranked second in Pennsylvania in both the long jump and triple jump, was expected to be among the favorites to win a state title at Sunday's indoor state meet at Penn State. He has season bests of 23-4.75 in the long and 48-5.75 in the triple.
He joins Kyle Garland as highly-ranked Pennsylvania boys who won't be suiting up for the state meet. Garland did not enter in the state meet because of an ankle injury he's been dealing with.
