Girls' 4x200-Meter Relay Preview
For four years running, the 4x200-meter relay have belonged to Cheltenham. The Panthers sprint squad has consistently put together the pieces of a state championship 4x2. Last year, the team rolled to a state meet record at Penn State of 1:39.19. Cheltenham will be the top seed once again this season. Though they are without Chanel Brissett, three others are back from last year's team, in addition to new arrival Ni Asia Williams. Cheltenham went 1:40.66 to take second at last month's New Balance Games, and will go for five-in-a-row on Sunday.
Coatesville was third in that New Balance Games race that included the top seeds. Coatesville is a deep sprint team this year as well, and could pose an interesting challenge to Cheltenham after a 1:41.06 season best. Norristown, too, has some good depth. The Eagles went 1:41.35 to take third at Millrose and will be hungry for the top spot. Neumann Goretti will be strong as well. It dropped a 1:41.63 to win at Ocean Breeze earlier this season, and will hope to be in amongst the top teams.
The race should come down to those four teams; there's a four second gap between them and the next seeded relay. Handoffs and ordering will be crucial in what always seems to be a chaotic event.
Meet of Champs winners Penn Wood, Susquehanna Township, Methacton, Harry S. Truman, and Warwick will be in the mix for medals, but those last four medals look to be up for grabs.
