In the pole vault, Mackenzie Horn of Manheim Township cleared 12-07 to win the pole vault. That's an outdoor PR and new PA#1 for Horn.

The jumps created some close battles. In the long jump, Lower Dauphin's Karina Long took the win with a leap of 18-02.5. Taylor Givens of State College was second with a jump of 17-06.5. Those two also met in the triple jump, but Givens reversed her fortune, winning with a jump of 36-06.5 and Long placed second.

Palmyra's Kirstin West got her season off to a good start in the javelin. She won with a toss of 124-09, good enough for a PA#1. Cedar Crest's Hannah Woelfling threw 135-05 to win the discus and move her to PA#2, a very strong PR for the junior.

Boys' Recap

Ronald Kent of Harrisburg got his season off to a great start. Despite the bitter cold conditions, he dropped a 10.86 (PA#2) in the finals of the 100 meters to take the win. Expect Kent to be a factor in the event this season.Kent's teammate Richard Gilchrist earned the win in the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.71 (PA#3). Wilson's Alex Cluff took second in the 110s, but came back to dominate the 300-meter hurdles and win in a PA#3 39.79.

In the 200 and 400 meters, Mechanicsburg's Joseph Bruno took home the wins. Bruno outlasted Cumberland Valley's Chase Ebersole for the 400 win in 49.35 (PA#2) and then he came back to win the 200 in 22.26 (PA#2)

In the 3,200 meters, Morgan Cupp of Mechanicsburg clocked a state leader for the win. The senior went 9:31.55 to beat out Manheim Township's Ian Miller (9:38).

Wilson kept its strong start to the season going on Saturday. It won the 4x100-meter relay in 43.09 (Wilson ran 42.83, a PA#1, at Hatboro last week). Schuylkill Valley won the 4x800 (8:15.89) and the 4x400 (3:26.54).

A pair of boys jumped past 23 feet in the long jump -- even more impressive considering the cold. Schuylkill Valley's Joe Jardine took the win with a 23-2.5, a huge PR and new PA#1. State College Area's Jake Hefkin was second with a PA#2 jump of 23-1.

Jardine was second in the pole vault (14-0), but the win belonged to Payton Morris of East Pennsboro, who broke his own meet record with a jump of 16-0 (also an outdoor PR). State leader Lance Hamilton of State College Area won the triple jump with a leap of 45-05.

Tanner Miller of Cedar Crest captured the javelin throw win with a toss of 181-02 (PA#5) and Manheim Township's Patrick Cloonan won the shot put with a throw of 51-08 (PA#5).
