Who To Watch For In Each District Meet

PIAA District 5 Championships

Who To Watch For: Josh Booth (McConnellsburg)

Why? Booth is the defending AA state champ in the 300-meter hurdles. He went 39.11 to take the state crown last spring at Ship. This year, the senior has been very consistent, breaking 40 seconds and winning in each of his 300-meter hurdle races. He also hasn't shied away from competition, earning wins at Pan-Ram and Shippensburg.

What to expect? Despite running a personal best of 39.07 to win the ICC title, Booth sits at PA-AA#2 on the season; Derry Area's Shawn Broadway ran 38.95 on May 1. Booth should be hungry to take over the top AA spot heading into the state meet. Look for him to approach breaking 39 seconds at the D5 Championships.

Others to watch for: Noah Dillow (Jumps); Evan Germaux (Sprints); Duane Knisley (Throws); Ian Zimmerman (Distance)

Who To Watch For: Kaitlyn Maxwell (Everett Area)

Why?: Just a sophomore, Maxwell has wasted little time rising up the ranks in Pennsylvania in the one-lapper. She posted a best time of 58.79 to win at the Northern Bedford Invitational, a time that puts her at No. 7 in AA in Pennsylvania. A week earlier, she won at the Shippensburg Invite in 59.12.

What to expect: In what should easily be the race of the dat at the District 5 Championships, Maxwell will matchup with Shade Lorna Spiegle, who Maxwell edged out by .03 at Northern Bedford. Expect those two to push each other for the district crown on Wednesday. Look for both to move up the state rankings by the end of the week.

Others to watch for: Hailey Dodson (Throws); Jaden Fuller (Jumps); Kara McKenzie (Hurdles); Lorna Spiegle (400)
