AA Girls' Triple Jump Preview
The competition rose to some serious heights at the District 6 Championships with the top four seeds for the state meet coming from that one meet. At the top is Rachel Horrell of Ligonier Valley, who jumped a big season best and PA-AA#1 of 38-07.5 to take the win. She'll look to duplicate that performance at Ship and improve upon her seventh place finish from 2017.
Bishop Carroll's Maddie Murphy (fifth last year), Penn Cambria's Lauren Michina (sixth last year), and Forest Hills' Zoe Roush round out those other top seeds from the D6 meet. Michina enters at PA-AA#2 after a 38-07 leap to win the LHAC title a few weeks ago. Each will be in contention, though.
But the reigning champion is Breana Gambrell of Athens Area. Though she specializes in the long, she's a very solid triple jumper, too. She won the AA state title a year with a PR jump of 38-08.75. If she can pull out another leap like that, she'll be tough to beat. Her season best is 38-05.5.
Quaker Valley's Franzi Nace was second to Gambrell at states a year ago. She's jumped well this spring, including a best of 38-06.25 earlier in the season. Daliah Hosey of Wellsboro was fourth a year ago and will aim for similar success this season.
