AAA Girls' Triple Jump Preview
Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren comes in as the reigning AAA state champ in the triple jump. In the winter, she added an indoor state title and has been popping some big jumps all spring long. She was the top American finisher at the Penn Relays with a jump of 41-00.5 and then won at Henderson with a leap of 41-01.5.
But Madison Langley-Walker of Upper Dublin picked up the District 1 title over Warren on Saturday in some poor conditions. Langley-Walker was second to Warren at outdoor states last year and was second again at indoor states. She'll look to make the leap to the top this time around.
The top seed based on districts performance, though, is Ayanna Burrell of Stroudsburg. The senior has leapt past 40 feet in her last two meets. She went 40-08 to win the EPC title, then in the rain and cold of the District 11 Championships, went 40-00.75, making her a serious factor for gold at Ship after a fourth place finish a year ago.
West York Area's Tesia Thomas comes in at PA-AAA#4 and a season best of 39-04.5. Lower Dauphin's Karina Long beat out Thomas for the District 3 title, jumping a best of 38-03.25. Look for both girls to mix it up near the top of the standings back at the Shippensburg runway.
Among the other girls with jumps of 38 feet or better this season are Pottsgrove's Miazziah Rose, Wyoming Valley West's Ashley Blannard, North Penn's Natalie Kwortnik, Ridley's Meghan Lynch, and Bethlehem Catholic's Liz Lieb.
