PIAA States Preview: Boys' Distance

AA Boys' 1,600m Preview

Last year, they battled it out and they'll do it again this year. It's time for Tristan Forsythe vs. Joe Cullen.

Forsythe outlasted Cullen a year ago for the win. The Winchester Thurston senior, who won the 1A XC state title in the fall, went 4:12 for the win at Ship last spring. He's had a strong spring to this point, picking up wins at the Baldwin Invite (full mile) and WPIALs.

Cullen of Wyomissing has also been solid this season. He started his season with a strong race in North Carolina at the Raleigh Relays and has done a lot of winning elsewhere. He ran 4:13 for second a year ago and could be looking for redemption this year.

Of course, many others will be looking to get into the mix. Garrett Baublitz of Juniata ran 4:21 to win the District 6 title and will likely embed himself near the front. Southern Huntingdon's Andrew Stanley, Palmerton's Jacob Martinez, and Southern Columbia's Ethan Knoebel all have season bests in the 4:26 range.

Danville Area's Jacob Foster, Montrose's Brandon Curley, and Wyalusing Valley's Alex Patton will also be in the hunt for medals in this field.
