Team Breakdown: PIAA District 9 Girls

D9-A Girls - Team Breakdown

The girls from Cranberry rolled to the District 9 Class A title last year, scoring just 28 points. The team loses its top runner from last year, Tifany Berry, but five others from varsity are back. Chelsea McKissick, Kalynne Ziegler, and Lauren Varsak are a strong top three for Cranberry, which is favored to repeat in D9-A this fall.

Brookville Area earned the second state qualifying spot last season. All seven varsity runners are back for Brookville this season, which ended up 16th at states. Emma Fiscus and Alexis Dubay are a solid top two that can certainly lead this team back to Hershey in 2018.

Also returning its full team from last year is Brockway Area. Fourth in the district in 2017, Brockway has a squad with a lot of potential, led by Sylvia Pisarchick.

The wild card team is Northern Potter. After winning the district title in 2016, NP didn't have a full scoring five last season. Behind lowsticks Danielle Perry (D9-A champion in '17) and Amanda Ford (third place in D9-A last season), Northern Potter could be a force if it can get a full scoring team. The same goes for Elk County Catholic. Led by Chelsea Hunt, ECC was third in the district last season. If it can find five runners for this season, it, too, can contend for the top two.
