Team Breakdown: PIAA District 2 Girls

D2-A Girls - Team Breakdown

Holy Cross returned to the top of District 2 Class A last season after a dominating performance at Lakeland that saw the team score just 24 points and win by 48. This year, Holy Cross loses two of its varsity girls from a year ago, including the individual district champ Lexi Walsh. Molly Repecki, who was second overall in the district last year, will be called on to lead the team this season.

Abby Sempa, Alex Tomaine, and Ericka Pica are among the others back from last year's team, which took eighth at the state meet. With that crew returning, Holy Cross will once again be the strong favorites for a district title.

We can't, however, forget about Elk Lake, a perennially strong program in District 2. In 2016, Elk Lake nearly won a state title, finishing second and missing out on the win due to a tiebreaker. Last year, though, the team only had three runners at the district meet, preventing an opportunity for another crack at a high states finish and district title. Back this year are Shayanne Bennett and Sadie Bosscher, who were 3-4 at districts. With a strong core, Elk Lake could contend for the win and lone states spot if it adds some numbers.

Wyoming Seminary was a young team last year, but ran well to take second at districts. Rising junior April Kupsky will lead this team that had four freshman on varsity last year. Lakeland has five varsity returners and will also look to contend this fall.
