Team Breakdown: PIAA District 2 Girls

D2-AA Girls - Team Breakdown

Scranton Preparatory left no doubt about it at Lakeland last season, putting three girls in the top five of the District 2 Class AA race and running away with the district title by 42 points. Prep will go for a second straight district crown this fall with five varsity returners from last year's team returning.

Mia Bellucci, the individual D2-AA champ from last year, is back to lead the way again. Also back is Adiya Golden (fourth at districts) and Abby Bowen (fifth at districts), making for a very strong top three. Prep placed fifth at states last year and with a preseason ranking of AA#4, it could make a big splash again this season.

Second place last year was Dallas, which returns five girls to the fold, as well this season. Megan Borton was third in the district and rising sophomore Kaitlyn Hodakowski was tenth. Both are back and Dallas could certainly find itself battling it out for the D2-AA title and a trip to Hershey this fall.

2016 district champs Honesdale placed third and just missed a state berth last year. But this relatively young squad will be hungry this fall with its full varsity team back from last year. Rising senior Mackenzie LaMorte is back to lead the way for a team that will be ripe with juniors and sophomores this season.

Lake Lehman graduated its top two girls from last year, but a solid group of returners are back, looking to bring this team into contention, led by Abby Paczewski, a rising junior and state qualifier from last year. Holy Redeemer, which loses '17 top runner Lindsey Williams to graduation, brings back five varsity girls and will look to improve upon its fifth place finish from a year ago.

Valley View and Western Wayne were sixth and seventh last year at districts, respectively, and both have a healthy group of girls that could move up in the districts. Look for the teams to move up the standings this fall.
