Team Breakdown: PIAA District 1 Girls

D1-A Girls - Team Breakdown

Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr will be shooting for its third straight District 1 Class A crown this season, but this race will figure to be a close one for the lone state spot up for grabs.

Emma Seifried, a three-time district champion has graduated for Sacred Heart. Kayleigh Doyle, who finished second last season at districts, will look to lead SHBM this season with Chiara O'Keefe also back for the defending champs.

The team with the best chance of overtaking Sacred Heart is Calvary Christian, which placed second at districts last year, eighth points off the win. Abigail Brown, the reigning district champion is back, along with the rest of the varsity squad, like Leah Angstadt, who had a strong freshman season last year. The pieces are in place for Calvary to make a run at the top spot.

Jenkintown, third last year, also returns its full varsity squad. If this team can move up in the field it could be a factor for the win this season. Dock Mennonite is another team that will aim for a high finish in the district this fall.

Ultimately, this race is going to come down to depth. The teams that can find some strong 4 and 5 runners to merge between now and the end of the season could be looking at a trip to Hershey come November.
