Individuals Breakdown: District 7 Girls

D7-A Girls - Individuals Breakdown

Haley Hamilton showed some major improvement last year and it resulted in the sophomore running away with the WPIAL title and then placing seventh at the state meet in 1A. Now a junior, the Our Lady of Sacred Heart harrier will look to add another WPIAL title and high states finish. She dropped a 19:03 on the tough SRU course last fall, and looks to be the favorite heading into this fall.

She'll get a good challenge from Vincentian Academy's Tara Lucot. As a freshman last year, Lucot led a strong Vincentian team with a fourth place finish at WPIALs and then a ninth place finish at states. The rising sophomore should match up well with Hamilton this season as they race for the WPIAL title.

Vincentian, one of the top 1A teams in the state also returns a pair of other top finishers from last year: Marissa Canzian and Hollie Walters. Canzian was 23rd at states last year, while Walters was 33rd. Both girls will be looking for another strong season.

Northgate's Megan Wisniewski was sixth at districts and 13th at states last season. Neshannock's Abby Hutchison was eighth at districts and then 28th at the state meet, just missing a medal. Shenango's Carmen Medvit (ninth at districts, 32nd at states) also just missed out on a state medal. Expect these three to be in the conversation for solid finishes again this season.

A high finish at WPIALs showed that a high finish at states a week later was highly probable. Look for some of 1A's top runners to be some of PA's best in 2018.
