Midseason Report: Sizing Up The Sprints

The GOAT vs. The Frosh, Round 1 - Girls 60m

PA State Rankings: 55m | 60m

The State Favorites: Fore Abinusawa (Germantown Academy); Thelma Davies (Girard College)

Top Medal Contenders: Bria Barnes (Cheltenham); Casey Burton (North Allegheny); Aja Davis (Lower Merion); Sabria Epps (Springside Chestnut Hill); Leah Graybill (Warwick); Raven Haston (Obama Academy); Lily Palacio-Lewis (Warwick)

Dark Horses: Emma Elwell (Boyertown); Jaleezia Gibson (Harry S Truman); Jordyn Hock (Conestoga Valley); Teliyah James (Norristown); Molly Wagner (Thomas Jefferson)

Sizing It Up: Davies has spent the first three years of her career re-writing the sprint record books in Pennslavnia. Davies holds the state record in both the 55m (6.77) and the 60m (7.33) and will be going for her fourth straight 60-meter indoor state crown in February.

Though a freshman will be looking to spoil the party for the "GOAT." Abinusawa has been very impressive this season since her debut in Week 1, where she ran 6.95 for 55 meters. She has since lowered that US#1 mark to 6.89. Davies ran 6.96 last week and the two sit at US#1 and US#2. In fact, the pair are the only girls in the nation to have run sub-7 in the 55 this winter. In a month, the two will meet for a shot at the state title, but first to come will likely be the Millrose Games, where Davies has won the last two 55m titles.

Barring the unforeseen, the state crown will come down to Abinusawa and Davies, but there has been some impressive performances. The Warwick duo of Palacio-Lewis and Graybill are PA#1 and PA#2 in the 60 meters. The best of the TSTCA, Burton, isn't far off, Barnes, Davis, Epps, and Haston will be in the mix for that No. 3 spot too. Talitha Diggs (7.04 55m SB) will likely run the 400/200 at states.
