PTFCA Indoor States Preview: Girls' Sprints & Hurdles

Girls' 200 Meters Preview

Like the 60 meters, the 200 meters at indoor states will bring us another showdown between Girard College's Thelma Davies and Germantown Academy's Fore Abinusawa. This race will have an added wrinkle with Saucon Valley's Talitha Diggs as a major factor as well. It's going to be another classic race for sure.

Davies will get the favorable lane draw here as the top seed, which will give her a nice advantage. She's won the 200 meter state title each of the last two years and will be looking to win No. 3 on Sunday. She's only run the 200 in one meet, collecting a state-leading time of 24.07.

Diggs is the No. 2 seed here. She was second to Davies a year ago, but is running the best of her career this season. She ran a PR of 24.18 at Ocean Breeze last month and could certainly make a run at the win. Abinusawa is the third seed, having run a best of 24.35, but she has run 24.51 on a flat track. Just a freshman, she can't be counted out. Look for this race (timed final) to be close coming off the last turn.

This race is loaded with five others having clocked sub-25 times (post-conversion). Upper Saint Clair's Jane Madson has been running well this season. She went 24.65 at SPIRE, proving she'll be a serious contender. George School's Sanaa Hebron is another ninth grader in the field that figures to make an impact. Most recently, she ran a PR of 24.78 at Ocean Breeze. Arianna Eberly of Coatesville and Bria Barnes of Cheltenham both enter with season bests at 24.83. Eberly is a returning medalist, placing eighth a year ago in this event. Warwick's Leah Graybill went 25.22 on a flat track at F&M and should be in the mix for a high finish, as well.

Neumann Goretti's Mykala Perry was fourth at states last year from the third of four heats. She is yet to run a banked track open 200 this season, but she'll still be a factor from one of the early heats this season again. Swenson's Jada Smith and Norristown's Teliyah James will also be in the mix for medals.
