Girls' 4x400m Relay Preview
The race to end the meet will come down to a pair of squads that have proven to be the state's best this season: Neumann Goretti and Coatesville. This is also a showdown of the top AA team and the top AAA team from outdoors last year.
Neumann Goretti, the defending indoor state champs, come in at PA#1 with a 3:52 from earlier in the year. The Saints have a wealth of depth at the quarter mile distance, and likely the potential to drop an even faster time than their current season best, particularly in a competitive race.
Coatesville is also deep. The Raiders ran 3:54 at Ocean Breeze this season, and return from an outdoor season that saw them drop a 3:46 to win the state title. NG and Coatesville didn't race at the DVGTCA Meet of Champions, just building the anticipation for what should be an exciting fast section of the relay on Sunday afternoon. Crucial team points will also be on the line to add even more drama.
A number of squads are right on the cusp of breaking 4 minutes and could make that a reality on Sunday. Friends' Central went 4:01 at the VA showcase, Penn Wood (meet record holders) dropped a 4:02 back in December, and Strath Haven went 4:04, also in December. Those teams will be looking to bridge the gap to the two favorites.
After that, very little separates the next teams in line. Anything can happen on race day at the end of a long meet, so practically no relay can be slept on in this field.
