Neumann Goretti Wins; Records Fall: Girls PTFCA States Recap

Girls Track Recap - PTFCA Indoor State Championships

Sprints & Hurdles

There have been many historic days in the career of Thelma Davies, but Sunday was perhaps the most historic of the Girard College's senior's career. Davies won a pair of races, setting all-time state records in both and moving to US#2 in those events, as well.

Davies won the race of the day in the 60 meters. The duel lived up to the hype, as Davies captured the win in 7.31. Freshman Fore Abinusawa of Germantown Academy was a close second in 7.32. Abinusawa was out of the blocks first, but Davies came back to take the win. Those times are also PA No. 1 and PA No. 2 all-time performances.

In the 200 meters, Davies won again, leaving no doubt. She ran away with the win in 23.51, setting a new PA state record. For Davies, it was her fourth straight 60 meter state title, as well as her third straight 200 meter state crown indoors.

In the 400 meters, Talitha Diggs of Saucon Valley captured the win and her first state title. At the break in, Diggs got to the rail first and held off a strong field to win in 54.86, an all-conditions PR for her. Later, Diggs placed second in the 200 meters to Davies in 24.30.

Conestoga Valley's Jane Livingston also captured her first career state title, winning the 60 meter hurdles. It was a close one as expected between Livingston and defending champion Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley. Ultimately, the PA#1 Livingston won out, running a PR of 8.38. That moves Livingston to US#5. Warren took second in 8.45, which is also a PR and US#7.

Distance

Taryn Parks was on a tear Sunday in the distance races. The Greencastle-Antrim junior started her day, running away with the mile win in 4:53.48. She broke free of the field just before the race's midway point and kept rolling from there, taking the win.

She proved she had plenty left for later in the day. In the 800 meters, Parks once again went to the front at the midway point, making a long drive to the finish. She held off impressive freshman Micah Trusty of Friends' Central for the win. parks clocked a 2:09.87 to Trusty's 2:10.31.

In perhaps the upset of the day, Warwick's Kate Dickow captured the win in the 3000 meters. The senior posted a 14-second PR to outlast a strong, but wide open field. Dickow closed well to hold off challengers in a 9:56.44.

Relays

The Neumann Goretti girls bookended their day with state titles. The day started with the first event of the day that saw the Saints take the 4x800 meter relay title in 9:10.59, narrowly defeating the defending champions from Strath Haven. Anchor leg Kami Joi Hickson made up ground and brought it home for the win. Haven was second in 9:13.26.

Then in the 4x400, Neumann Goretti ran away with the title, clocking a 3:50.04, less than a second off the meet record in a mostly effort. The win helped the Saints solidify the team title with 42 points, 26 of which from relays.

Warwick won a dramatic duel in the 4x200 meter relay. On the anchor leg, Warwick's Cassidy Kline held off a Coatesville challenge for the win. The winning time was a season best of 1:41.70 for Warwick, while Coatesville came in at 1:41.96.

In the distance medley relay, it was all Penn Charter. The squad that had its members drop individual events to focus on the relay, PC proved it was worth it, running to the win in 12:10.97, the second fastest time in PA this season.
