Girls Field Recap - PTFCA Indoor State Championships

In a loaded girls' shot put, Mackenna Orie of Hempfield Area came out on top. 5 of the nation's top 12 in the event entering the weekend were in the field.  Orie tossed a career best of 47-5.5 on her first throw, and that throw held up the rest of the competition. It moved her to PA#2 and US#4 on the season. Mallory Kauffman of Greenwood threw 46-1 for second.

Sydney Horn of Manheim Township kept the girls pole vault title in the family. The junior jumped 12-06 to take home the states win on attempts. A year ago, Horn's older sister Mackenzie Horn won the state title. The younger Horn, who was 7th last season, moved up to the top spot this winter. Scranton Preparatory's Victoria Atkinson also jumped 12-06 and took second on attempts.



There were a pair of repeat champion in the girls' field events.

Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren used some terrific consistency to win her second straight indoor state crown in the triple jump and fourth straight TJ title overall (including outdoors). Warren's six jump series included four leaps over 40 feet (and a fifth at 39-7). Her best came on No. 6, a 40-10, just off her season best.

In the high jump, Palisades' Lydia Bottelier, which is also her second straight indoor title and fourth straight overall win. Bottelier cleared 5-08 to earn the victory and was perfect through 5-06.

North Penn's Natalie Kwortnik became the first girl this winter to jump over 19 feet in the long jump, and it netted the senior her first individual state title. Kwortnik jumped 19-03.75 for the victory in a series that included one other 19+ leap.
