PIAA States Preview: Girls' Sprints/Hurdles

AA Girls' 100m Preview

Final No. 1 for Thelma Davies for come on Saturday in the 100 meters. The Girard College senior will look to add her name to a very exclusive list of four-time state champions in a single PIAA event in track and field.

Davies will be the heavy favorite here. She ran 11.84 to cruise to the District 1 title, but you have to think she is itching to drop a national-caliber time this weekend. Her own meet record of 11.58 has stood since her freshman and if the weather cooperates, she could take a crack at it.

Sophomore Maddie Raymond of South Park is running well at the right time. She blasted a quick 12.01 to win the WPIAL title this past week. That's a nice PR for Raymond, who was fifth as a freshman last year. Skye Eicher of Frazier was second at WPIALs, running a 12.23 in the prelims. Expect the junior to make a run at a high finish.

District 10 champion Michaela Rose of Lakeview, District 3 champion Milly Heinbaugh of Fairfield Area, and District 12's Chelby Elam of Science Leadership Academy at Beeber and Khaliyah Bosman of Bishop McDevitt are among the best bets to make the final.

Davies will be looking to make some history, but this is a strong field after her. The LSU-bound Davies is likely to make it four-for-four in the 100.
