PIAA States Preview: Girls' Sprints/Hurdles

AA Girls' 200m Preview

Thelma Davies will cap off her PIAA career on Saturday afternoon, likely going for her fourth straight outdoor state championship for the second time on the day. The Girard College senior will once again be the overwhelming favorite in an event where she holds the all-time state record.

Last year, she ran 23.10 at USATF Juniors to set the all-time mark. As for the meet record, she currently shares that with the legendary Lauryn Williams at 23.85. We'll see if Davies will shoot to be the sole owner of that record by day's end.

Also in the AA 200 field is the talented Mykala Perry of Neumann Goretti. Second a year ago to Davies, Perry won the District 12 title last week and has a 24.96 to her name this spring. She's the reigning 400 state champ, but she should be high on the podium in the 200 as well.

South Park's Maddie Raymond was seventh a year ago. She took the WPIAL title this past week and has run 25.18 this season. A few other district champs -- Bloomsburg's Sage Harmon (D4), Lakeview's Michaela Rose (D10), Fairfield Area's Milly Heinbaugh (D3), and Holy Redeemer's Karissa Spade (D2) -- will have a great shot at high finishes in this strong field.
