AAA Boys' 100m Preview
It's been an incredibly fast year for Pennsylvania boys in the 100 meters and that will be on display in what will be a very competitive AAA 100.
District 3 had a huge year in the event. Central Dauphin East's Shawn Brown took home the district title this past week and will enter the weekend as the top seed. He ran 10.54 earlier in the season and was third last year, making him the top returner. In a very close D3 100 meter final, he edged out Harrisburg's Kamere Day and Chambersburg's Tyeshawn Worrell. Day has the top season best in the field with a 10.48 from the Shippensburg Invite. Those three will be among the favorites this weekend. Harrisburg's Donte Kent (10.72 SB) and Mechanicsburg's Joseph Bruno (10.73 SB) are also worth watching for here.
District 1 champion Savion Hebron of Neshaminy comes in off a big meet this past week. He ran 10.75 in the prelims at D1 and has the speed that will put him in the conversation for the win after a seventh place finish in 2018. Central Bucks West's Luke Benson, second to Hebron at districts, was eighth at states last year. Boyertown's Jamison Moccia comes in as the 31st seed, but he is one of the few returning medalists after a fifth place finish last year at states.
The future is now for Seneca Valley's Tyler Yurich, who has emerged to win the WPIAL crown last week. The freshman went 10.75, edging out Pittsburgh Central Catholic's Jahmaine Hatten (ran 10.76) for the district win. Look for the ninth grader, along with the breakthrough Hatten, to make some noise on the big stage.
James Coughlin's Rafael McCoy, the District 2 champ, will be in the hunt for the win after a 10.80 last week. Darlington Brooks of Northeast, the District 12 champion, is another one to watch in this wildly deep field of sprinters.
