Tarphen was among the latest in the always-talented crop of sprinters to come out of Penn Wood. He was apart of some talented relays for the Patriots. Penn Wood's 4x400 meter relays placed second at the indoor state meet (3:22.94) and sixth at the outdoor state meet in Class AAA (3:19.41).
Tarphen had open PRs of 11.26 in the 100 meters and 22.54 in the 200 meters.

What was your most memorable race/competition?
2019 indoor state championship 4x400 relay I ran a 51 to get us back into the lead and our relay team claimed the second place medal.
Where did you face your biggest competition?
The Bullis invite those guys were moving I lead off the water start for the 4x400 and we got second place.
Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
When I finally ran a 49 in prelims vs CB West and others at outdoor states in prelims of the 4x400.
If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
I would not had left track in 9th grade to play football and didn't return until my junior year I had a lot of catching up also I would had ran cross country.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Not letting anyone stop me from doing what I was good at and it was running for Penn Wood
What will you miss the most?
I will miss all my teammates the ones I really had a strong bond James Nmah, Davon Battle, Timmy Odunjo, Tayvon Williams, Jordin Jones and the whole girls team.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Finish all the work outs you are given and finish strong.
How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?
-Yes they were a huge impact in life I've known them for like 2 years and they made me see the world differently they really opened my eyes.
What are your post-high school plans?
Going out Iowa to a juco to prove myself and pop out at a great 4 year university and run on that track team.
