Individuals Preview

Sharon's Gianna Labbiento proved her dominance last year in D10-AA, running to a blowout win in the mud. Labbiento ended up third at states and should be a contender in a loaded state AA classification this fall. She's coming off an injury-plagued season on the track, so she will have plenty of motivation going into her junior year. She will be the favorite this season to win her third straight district title.

Fairview's Maddison Hayes is coming off a big sophomore season. Hayes placed second at districts and then fourth at states with a terrific race, running 19:21 at Hershey. She was fifth at outdoor states on the track in the 3200 meters and will look to compete with Labbiento in D10 and the state as a whole this fall.

Conneaut Area's Meara Shannon is coming off a breakthrough sophomore season. The junior went sub-19 once last fall and third at districts. At states, she took tenth. Look for her to have another big fall and compete with the likes of Labbiento and Hayes.

There is one other state medalist from D10-AA that is back this season. Warren Area's Naomi Hahn took 21st at states after a fourth place run at districts. She'll be in the mix again this season. Harbor Creek's Madeline Curtis, General McLane's Devyn Bayle, and Oil City's Olivia Mumford are each back this season after placing inside the top 10 at districts last year.

Team Preview

Villa Maria Academy took home its eighth straight District 10 team title last season, edging out Fairview, and now Villa Maria is looking to make it nine-in-a-row. VM loses 3 of its top 4 from last year's team that ended up 11th at states, but it always does a good job of retooling. They are a good bet to contend for another team title, or at least the top two to make the state meet.

Fairview, which won the 2017 state title in 1A, moved to AA last year and took tenth, a spot ahead of Villa Maria after taking second to them at districts by a single point. Four varsity girls are back for Fairview, including Hayes and Halle Myers (11th at states in 1A in '17). If they can add some depth, they will be a tough team to beat once again.

General McLane brings back six varsity girls from a year ago, though it loses its top girl in Anna Alberti. McLane was just four points off Fairview last year, and will be certainly motivated to reverse its luck this season and make a run for Hershey.

Harbor Creek has the potential to be a factor for the top two. It returns its full varsity squad from a year ago that had four freshmen. With a strong top runner in Curtis, look for HC to make a good run. Corry Area (sixth last season) will look to move up to states territory with 6 girls back.
