Hershey Heats Up: PIAA Foundation Recap

Boys White Race Recap - PIAA Foundation Invitational

It was billed as a matchup between three of Class A's best and the race lived up to the hype. The Penns Valley duo of Colton Sands and Brendan Colwell, along with Andrew Healey of Holy Cross battled it out to the finish. The three were together at two mile and Sands and Healey were together as they made their way up Poop-Out Hill. In the end, it was Sands who got the better of the Healey, winning in 16:27. Healey came across second in 16:30 with Colwell coming across in third in 16:38.

This race proved that the Class A race will be a thrilling one in November at the state meet with these three and a host of other talents that could step up.

Winchester Thurston's Scott Routledge was fourth in 16:55 and Wyalusing Valley's Kemuel Laudermilch took fifth in 16:58, a microcosm of the team battle.

Winchester Thurston captured the team title with 70 points, followed by second place Wyalusing Valley (83 points). Patrick Malone (eighth in 17:11) and Sean Heintzleman (12th in 17:29) were a very solid 2-3 for the Bears, which put its full scoring top five in the top 25. Wyalusing, meanwhile, had four in the top 21 and showed it could provide a good challenge to Thurston when the teams return to Hershey in November.

Jenkintown, the reigning state champs in 1A, took third with 103 points, led by Luke Miller's seventh place finish. The Drakes have retooled well since last year's title run. Cranberry was fourth and Holy Cross placed fifth in the team standings.
