Altoona Mt. Lion Invitational - Meet Recap
After taking second at Altoona last year, Lauren Shaffer claimed the win this time around -- the first of her career at Saturday's Mt. Lion Invite. The Portage Area sophomore went 19:50, close to a minute improvement from a year ago, to earn the victory. Westmont Hilltop's Ellie Dorian was second in 20:11 followed by third place Samantha Hayes of Saint Marys Area (20:16).
The team title went to Forest Hills, which scored 45 points for the win over second place Saint Marys Area (66 points).
In the boys' race, Nick Fetzer of Westmont Hilltop earned his second win of the second, running 16:19 to cross the tape first. Bedford's Van May was second in 16:28, followed by the Northern Bedford duo of Ian Zimmerman (third) and Ian Sherlock (fourth).
The hosts from Altoona Area ran away with the team win, scoring 39 points for a commanding win. It was a tight pack once again for Altoona, which had just a 24-second 1 through 5 spread. Brayden Henninger led the way for Altoona with a fifth place overall finish.
