Meet Preview: PIAA District 5 Championships

Boys Preview - PIAA District 5 Championships

Class A

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1

The race for the win individually should come down to teammates Ian Zimmerman and Ian Sherlock of Northern Bedford. The duo have been the class of District 5 this season, similar to last season when the pair went 1-2 in the district. Zimmerman enters as the defending district champ, while Sherlock was second. Sherlock has bridged the gap to Zimmerman quite a bit this season and even got the best of his teammate at the Carlisle Invite, where the teammates went 2-5.

Both Zimmerman and Sherlock are legitimate medal contenders, and could get inside the top ten in the state. Before that, the duo will look to take care of business and compete for the top spot in D5. The battle will be between those two up front.

Windber Area's Matthew Shank will look to break up the NB group in the top five. Shank was fifth at districts last year.

Northern Bedford will be the heavy favorites for the team title again. Last season, NB scored 34 points to win the district and take the lone state spot. It should be more of the same this season. With the Ians up front and Connor Laird and Hunter Horton adding good depth.
