Buxton Starts Quick In The Hurdles

The newest star in the hurdles in Pennsylvania appears to have arrived.

Taleea Buxton, a freshman at Bishop McDevitt, has wasted little time proving that she'll be a force this season in the high hurdles. She's picked up a win in each of the first two weeks of the season and it looks like she's just getting started.

At the season-opening Ursinus Invitational in Collegeville, Buxton went 8.30 in the 55 meter hurdles to take the win. Less than a week later this past Friday at Lehigh for the first DVGTCA meet of the season, Buxton went 8.84 for the victory in the 60 meter hurdles from the outside lane six.

Both times stand at PA No. 1 through the first two weeks of the season, with her 55 meter hurdles time is at US No. 11 and her 60 meter hurdles time sits at US No. 3. Last year, her 55 hurdles time would have been the fourth fastest in PA, while her 60 hurdles time would have been the sixth fastest time in the state.

In each race, Buxton topped a pair of talented hurdlers, beating Tia Taylor of Saint Basil at Ursinus and Brianna Smith of Cheltenham at Lehigh. The season is still young, but Buxton is showing that she's here to stay.
