PTFCA Indoor States Preview: Boys' Field

Boys' High Jump Preview

Last year presented a close one for the high jump state title indoors, with Perk Valley's Cole Peterlin taking the win on a jumpoff. This year could be similarly close with two boys coming in with season bests of 6-9, one at 6-8, and a former state champion lurking.

Coatesville's Ousman Kamara and Chestnut Ridge's Logan Pfister enter as the top seeds, having both jumped 6-9 this season. Kamara's jumped his best at the New Balance Games, where he took the win. He also claimed notable wins at the Hispanic Games, the Ocean Breeze Invite and the TFCAofGP Meet of Champs. He's the reigning AAA outdoor state champ and will be going for his first indoor state crown

Pfister, a junior, jumped his 6-9 at a TSTCA meet and then went 6-7 to win the TSTCA title last week. He was eighth at outdoor states, and in his first season competing indoors, he'll be in the hunt for the top spot. Youngsville's Jake Hogg has jumped a best of 6-8 this winter. He was fourth at outdoor states last year, but is even better this winter. He'll look for a good day on Sunday to compete for the win.

Then there's Kolt Byers of Bermudian Springs, who is a clutch performer known to bring his best on the right day. Two years ago as a sophomore, Byers jumped a big PR of 6-6 to win the state title in upset fashion. Last year, he was second to Peterlin, on the wrong side of that jumpoff. He claimed the outdoor state title in AA last spring and can't be counted out. His season best this winter is 6-4.

Three boys have jumped bests of 6-6 this winter. They include Riverside's Bryce Collins, Coatesville's Donovan Hart, and Hatboro Horsham's Kasey Savage. Savage was sixth at indoor states last year. With a big meet, any of those three could take home the title.

LaSalle's Tommy Christie (fifth) and Penn Charter's Patrick Fehm (seventh) are the other two returning state medalists in this field. That experience on the big stage will be crucial in such a tight competition with a number of very evenly matched jumpers in the field.
