Girls' 4x200m Relay Preview
We can expect a very close race for the crown in the 4x200 meter relay.
Cheltenham, which holds the meet and state records, comes in as the top seed, looking to reclaim the top spot in the state for the first time since its record-setting 2017 season. The Panthers have the depth and a strong season best of 1:44.43, a time that has stood atop the state rankings since the Marine Corps Classic on December 29.
There's a large group of teams that have a good shot at the top spot, though. Saint Basil Academy's season best of 1:44.49 from the Hispanic Games is just .06 off Cheltenham's state leader. Basil has some terrific sprint talent that will make it a contender.
Then there is the defending state champions from Warwick that went 1:41.70 for the victory last season. Some key pieces are back from that team, which ran a best of 1:45.21 at Kevin Dare at Penn State. This is once again a team with the potential to claim the state title for a second straight season.
After Warwick, there are seven teams that have run times or converted times in the 1:45 range. Those team include Harry S. Truman (the reigning outdoor 4x1 champions), Boyertown, North Penn, Bensalem, Pennridge, Mount Saint Joseph, and Bishop McDevitt. A whole other crop is right on the cusp of that barrier.
No team has really stood above the rest overwhelmingly in the 4x200 this season. That sets the stage for what should be a thrilling relay for the win here. The 4x2, by nature, always offers unique excitement with factors like early positioning being so crucial. For those who enjoy a wide open field, this is one of the meet's best bets.
