Watch Maria Deaviz Set A PA Shot Put State Record


Maria Deaviz set the Pennsylvania state record in the shot put at Saturday's Rose Invitational in New Castle. Deaviz won the girls' shot with a new all-time best of 53-0.25.

The Souderton senior topped her own previous outdoor state all-time best of 52-1.25. Prior to that, Payden Montana's 51-foot heave from the 2018 PIAA State Championships. Deaviz's 53 footer is now also the top mark in PA state history -- indoors or outdoors. Previously, Heather Colyer of East Juniata held the all-conditions best at 52-5.75 from the winter of 1997.

Deaviz is now No. 14 on the all-time U.S. high school list in the shot put. Watch her record-setting put above.
