District 5 & District 8 AA Girls "Region" - Team & Individuals Breakdown

New for this year, the AA teams from District 5 and District 8 are combined to form a region for the girls. Bedford, Somerset Area, Carrick, Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, and Westinghouse are the five teams that make up this region.
Individuals Breakdown
The race for the individual title should come down to Bedford teammates, with sophomores Savanna Nesbitt and Meah Eshelman dueling for the win. Last year, Nesbitt was seventh in District 6 Class AA, while Eshelman was eighth. At the state meet, Eshelman placed 135th, while Nesbitt was 206th. Those two will be the ones to beat.
Alexis Twigg is another Bedford runner who has gone sub-21 in this field.
Team Breakdown
The big team favorites in District 5 Class A will be the girls from Bedford. They were a solid third in District 6 Class AA last season, but they move to this D5/D8 AA region this season, where they are the only team out of the five with a full returning scoring squad. It will be tough for the other teams to overcome Bedford this season.
The likes of Somerset and the District 8 squads -- Carrick, Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, and Westinghouse -- will look to add depth to contend with Bedford and the lone team state qualifying spot.
