District 1 XC Champs Qualifying Standards & Info Released

The qualifying procedure for the PIAA District 1 Championships has been released. The championship meet for one of the state's biggest districts will have a limited amount of qualifiers this year -- as many districts are implementing -- due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meet will also be getting a new home for this season only: Tyler State Park in Newtown. Lehigh University, the normal venue, will not be hosting any XC meets this year. The meet is now a two-day meet with the girls racing on Thursday, Oct. 29 and the boys racing on Friday, Oct. 30. There will be no spectators allowed, per District 1.

Here's a schedule for both days:

Class A

9:30 AM

Class AA

10:30 AM

Class AAA

First Race - 12 PM

Second Race - 12:30 PM

On Wednesday, it was announced by the PIAA that District 1 AAA would be getting additional individual qualifying spots into the state meet. After initially getting just five individual spots for states in District 1 AAA -- the state's largest district/classification -- the PIAA upped the number of spots to 13 for both girls and boys. D1-AAA will still get a single state qualifying spot for teams.

Class A and Class AA in District 1 -- both on the smaller side relative to the rest of the state -- will still get five individual state qualifying spots in addition to one spot for teams.

All A and AA teams that entered will be able to compete, but there will be limits to the number of AAA teams and individuals able to compete in the race. Here's a breakdown of the AAA qualifiers:
