Meet Preview: PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival

Girls Preview - PTFCA Carnival

Track Events

Delaware Valley's Taliyah Booker is entered in three events for Saturday -- the 55m, the 200m, and 400m. The same goes for Neshaminy's Sanaa Hebron. With a meet that is expected to move relatively quickly, we'll see if those girls go after each of those events. Booker enters the meet at PA#1 in the 55m and 400m and PA#4 in the 200. Hebron, meanwhile, is PA#4 in the 55, PA#3 in the 200 and PA#2 in the 400.

The most interesting of those three events could be the 400 meters, which also includes PA#3 Margaret Conteh of Girard College. While the Glen Mills track surface is not the most ideal, it should make for an interesting race between those three girls, along with Chester's Jiya Clayton.

Saint Basil Academy's Tia Taylor is the top seed and big favorite in the 55 meter hurdles, an event where she sits at PA#1 on the season.

In the mile, the one to beat will be Wilson's Caryn Rippey. She went 5:13 earlier this season and is fresh off a quick 3200 at SPIRE, where she ran 10:44. She'll go up against Wyomissing's Grace Kuhn and Mifflin County's Kylee Cubbison there. Rippey is also the top seed in the 3,000 meters, which also includes JP McCaskey's Arielle Breuninger. Look for some good times there.

The 800 meters should be a good race with Chester's Alina LaForest coming in as the top seed. Blue Mountain's Olivia Haas is coming off a 4:58 mile last weekend in Virginia. LaForest went 2:20 in the 8 earlier this season, so it will be a good matchup with Haas dropping down in distance. CD East's Delaney Line will be in the mix as well here.

Field Events

The long jump and shot put are the lone field events that will be contested at Saturday's Carnival.

In the long jump, look for a good competition between Shipley's Sabrina Imes, Saint Basil's Sasha Lee, and Manheim Township's Anika Krasnai. Imes has a career best of 18-7.75 from the state meet last year. Her season best is 17-1.75 (PA#5). Lee enters the meet at PA#4 with her season best of 17-5.5. Her career bestis 18-4.75. Krasnai leapt 17-6 at last year's Carnival and is certainly an up-and-comer in the jumps to keep an eye on.

In the shot put, the favorite is Council Rock South's Siniru Iheoma. The senior has a season best of 44-5 (over ten feet ahead of the next closest entry). Iheoma sits at PA#4 and US#8 in an event where PA is responsible for the nation's top three spots.
