Mia Cochran has had quite the XC and track and field resume, but up until this weekend, the Moon Area junior was yet to go sub-5 in the 1,600 meters or a full mile (indoors or outdoors).
That changed on Saturday at the Trial of Miles Kansas City Qualifer. Cochran went demolished the 5 minute barrier, clocking a PA No. 1 time and big PR for a full mile of 4:53.87. Against a loaded field, Cochran took fourth in a race won by Illinois freshman Allison Ince, who went 4:50.49.
After a relatively slow early pace, Cochran took the lead and ramped up the pace. From there the leaders ran a big negative split. From there, Ince kicked hard and held off junior Chloe Foerster for the win.
Cochran's 4:53.87 is the fastest full mile by a Pennsylvania girl so far this season. That time converts to a 4:52.17 for 1,600 meters, which would also be PA No. 1. West Chester Henderson's Jenna Mulhern holds the PA No. 1 for 1,600 meters this season at 4:53.39.
