AAA Boys 300m Hurdles Preview
This one should be good for the AAA 300 meter hurdles state title. The two favorite are Danville's Brandon Zimmerman and West Mifflin's Dontae Lewis. Zimmerman went 38.22 to win the District 4 title, while Lewis clocked a time of 38.35. Both are the only boys in the field to have run sub-39 this season and it looks like it'll be close between the two of them.
Not much separates these two favorites and it will likely come down to executing some of the more technical aspects of the race when it's go-time in this timed final.
After that, plenty of boys will look to get in the mix for a high finish and try to make a run at the two favorites. Cheltenham's Malcolm Garbutt will look to be one of those boys. The senior ran a big PR of 39.10 to take the District 1 title and is hitting his stride at the right time to get in the mix.
Spring Grove's Jonah Warehime ran a big race to take the win and the District 3 title this past weekend. He's in good fitness heading into states. The same goes for Allen Taylor of Williamsport. Taylor is the favorite in the 110s, but he proved his 300m hurdling chops are still at a high level after running 39.56 to take second to Zimmerman in District 4. He is the lone returning finalist from the state meet two years ago.
Seneca Valley's Aiden Kutchma went 39.14 earlier in the season. He was third at WPIALs in 39.83 and could be a factor with a big day. Xander Topos of Palmyra went 39.33 to win the Mid-Penn title. He was third in District 3 and is another boy that could be in for a big day in the intermediate hurdles.
State College's Ryan Lindenberg, the District 6 winner, and Archbishop Ryan's Andrew Lukashchuk, the District 12 champ, are a pair of boys coming off strong district meet performances that will be right in the hunt in what looks to be a fairly wide open field after the top two.
