PIAA States Preview: Boys' Sprints & Hurdles

AA Boys 400m Preview

Look for a good race in the 400 meters, as three boys that have run sub-50 will be ready to duke it out for the state title. Dock Mennonite's Stanley Saint-Fleur went 49.17 to win the District 1 title, the fastest AA time in the state. He looked fit at districts, closing out the meet with a 47.68 FAT split on Dock's winning 4x400. He will be tough to beat.

But North Catholic's Trevor Paschall will be right in the mix for the title. During a three-win WPIAL Championship meet, Paschall won the 400 in 49.45, not far off his season best of 49.27. He's focusing on the 200 and 400 at states, so he'll be fresh for the 400, just like Saint-Fleur.

The other sub-50 boy in the field is Kendall White of Bishop McDevitt. He ran 49.60 to win the District 12 title -- a big season best. Expect him to be right in the mix in what will be an exciting fast section of the 400 on Friday.

A bunch of boys will be looking to get in the conversation if they can run big season bests. Conwell-Egan's Freddie Haynesworth IV went sub-50 during the indoor season. His season best is 50.46 this spring and he can certainly be a factor. District 10 champion Cole Frazier (50.51) of Hickory and District 4 champion Gavin Garcia (50.57) of Southern Columbia both dropped nice PRs to win district titles and will be contenders, as well.
