AA Boys 4x400m Relay Preview
The race for the state title in the 4x400 meter relay in AA should be a good one to close out the day on Friday. Southern Columbia -- the favorites in the 4x100 -- also hold the state's quickest 4x4 time in AA. The Tigers went 3:25 to win their PHAC sectional meet a few weeks ago and then ran to the District 4 crown in 3:27.88 last week.
Riverside, however, will enter the state meet as the top seed after a 3:27.84 -- .04 faster than SC -- to win the WPIAL title in a close race with Burrell. Riverside will aim to challenge the top-ranked Southern Columbia squad at the end of a long meet. Burrell, meanwhile, can't be slept on after a solid 3:29.53 season best at WPIALs.
Two other teams -- District 12 winner Bishop McDevitt and District 4 runners-up Loyalsock Township -- have sub-3:30 times to their names this season. Both will be right up there, battling it out for high finishes. Teams like District 9 champs Kane Area, District 10 champs Grove City, and District 10 runners-up North East will look to go sub-3:30, which will more than likely mean a spot on the podium at Ship on Friday afternoon.
