AAA Boys 100m Preview
One of the weekend's most intriguing races will come in the AAA 100 meters, where a lot of talent has emerged -- particularly from the class of 2022. This is going to be close at the line.
Jaden Brown of Norristown sits at PA No. 1 entering the weekend. The junior went 10.66 earlier this season, and then on Saturday dropped a 10.67 in the prelims before taking the District 1 title in 10.71 in the final. That consistency is a good sign for the top seed, who will be tough to beat on Saturday.
But there will be plenty of boys with a shot at the top spot. Damon Simpson of Wilson Area is certainly one of them. He's broken through this spring, running a best of 10.72 to take the District 11 title. He's got some terrific potential and should be pushed well in this field.
Pennridge's Joey Gant is the third seed. He was a close second to Brown at District 1 and has a 10.70 to his name this spring. He's the top seed in the 200, but he'll first look to have a crack at the 100 meter win. Boyertown's Julian Saunders went 10.77 in the District 1 final. He took third, but he has the talent and experience to be a factor in this field.
Dallastown's Kristian Phennicie edged out Red Lion's Randy Fizer for the District 3 title. Those were both nice PRs for those two, who will aim to keep it rolling back on the same track as last week at Ship. State College's Eniayo Ogunranti has been enjoying a big first season in Pennsylvania. The senior won the District 6 title last week and has run a best of 10.81 this season in the 100.
One of the best stories of the season is Drew Gallen of West Chester Rustin. Not far removed from ACL surgery in October, the senior will come into the state meet seeded eighth after a 10.94 in the District 1 final. He'll be one to watch for sure.
Upper Dublin's Jaden Price-Whitehead, Seneca Valley's Tyler Yurich, and Shikellamy's Chase Morgan are among the others to watch for in this loaded field.
The best part here is that many of the top seeds are only juniors, so we'll get another year to see how fast these boys can go. But for now, it's all about who can get to the line first on Saturday.
