AA Girls Pole Vault Preview
Waynesburg Central's Taylor Shriver will look to take home gold in the AA pole vault. After a third place finish two years ago, Shriver is in the driver's seat to move up to the state's top spot in the vault on Friday. Shriver cleared a season best and PR of 12-9, which is over a foot better than the next closest girl in AA. Shriver cleared 11-6 to win at WPIALs and she will enter as the top seed.
A number of girls will be going for the upset. Greensburg Central Catholic's Corinn Brewer has jumped 11-8 this year and has gone over 11 feet on two other occasions, including last week to take second to Shriver at WPIALs.
Five others have cleared 11-0 this season in AA and all will be featured in these entries. Southern Columbia's Karly Renn (District 4 champion) jumped 11-3 each of the last two weeks and is vaulting her best at the right time, which will make her a factor for the win.
Everett's Violet Johnson cleared 11-1 to win at District 5 last week after jumping 11-0 two other times this spring. Bloomsburg's Sarah Bower, Warrior Run's Mya Shoemaker, and Trinity's Adeline Woodward are the others with season bests at 11-0 that could make some noise in this event.
