PIAA States Preview: Girls' Throws

AAA Girls Discus Preview

Siniru Iheoma of Council Rock South enjoyed quite the breakthrough sophomore season two years ago. She closed out that season by winning a state title in the AAA discus at Shippensburg. Now a senior, Iheoma returns to the state meet looking to defend her title in the event.

Iheoma is even better this season. The past few meets, she's been very consistent, most recently grabbing the District 1 title in 155-10, which will make her the top seed for Saturday. But we can expect a close battle for the state title.

That's because Hempfield Area's Isabella Gera has put down the top AAA mark in the discus this season. Gera threw 161-1 in the dual meet. She hit over 160 again at the Baldwin Invite a few weeks ago and looks to be in a good spot heading into states.

Her Hempfield Area teammate Elizabeth Tapper is having a great season, as well. The sophomore tossed a best of 140-1 this season and will be the No. 3 seed in this field after a second place finish to the senior Gera at WPIALs.

Villa Maria's Emma Woodcock (132-8 SB), Harrisburg's Ericka Jackson (132-0 SB),  and Governor Mifflin's Annika Ermold (130-2 SB) have all thrown over 130 feet this season. Warwick's Ella Lucus, Villa Maria's Norah Bice, and Easton's Jaiden Martellucci are all right on the cusp of 130 feet. All those girls will be battling it out for spots on the podium.
