Individuals Breakdown

It was a strong freshman campaign for Morgan Roemer of DuBois Area. After taking second to McDowell's Claire Belton in the sub-regional meet, Roemer went on to place 44th in a deep AAA field at the state meet. Now a sophomore with some more experience under her belt, Roemer will be the one to beat in the sub-regional. She is one to watch this fall.

Roemer's DuBois teammate Julia Wirths was fourth in the sub-regional last year before taking 78th at the state meet. She is back this year, looking for a return trip to Hershey. other state qualifiers in the sub-regional include McDowell's Sara Renshaw, Kaitlyn Stravinsky, and Kyla Kramer, as addition to DuBois' Morgan King and Taylor Allderdice's Gabby Berger.

Team Preview

The race for the lone state qualifying spot for teams in the sub-regional will likely come down to the teams that went 1-2 last season: McDowell and DuBois Area. McDowell loses three seniors from last year's sub-regional-winning team, including the individual champion, Belton. But four girls are back, like Kramer, who was second in District 10 Class AAA two years ago. After claiming the title by 15 points last season, McDowell will have some retooling to do, but should still be a factor for the top spot.

DuBois, which took second to McDowell last year, returns six of seven from last year's team. That team included four freshman, so this is a young team that could certainly make some strides to challenge McDowell this season. Roemer, one of those freshman from last year, is a strong No. 1 runner for DuBois, which can definitely make a run for Hershey this season.
