Meet Preview: District 4 Championships

District 4 Class A Girls - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Kayla Beebe (Wyalusing Valley); Heather Cecco (Southern Columbia); Lilah Hughes (Northeast Bradford); Gracelyn Laudermilch (Northeast Bradford); Kate Moncavage (Southern Columbia); Alyssa Parks (Troy); Melanie Shumway (Northeast Bradford)

Contending Teams: Canton Area; Northeast Bradford; Troy; Wyalusing Valley Area

The Skinny: Moncavage will be the big favorite to take the individual title. She has earned top five finishes in four big invites this season, and will be aiming to move up to the top spot in the district after taking second a year ago. She's a good bet to grab a high finish at the state meet a week later.

The NTL Coaches Invite provided a good preview of how the team situation in D4-A could play out. Troy is the team to beat after winning the NTL, but Wyalusing was just five points behind and will be aiming to flip the script. Those two teams are in a good spot to grab the two state spots. Northeast Bradford is a team to keep an eye on. NEB was third in the NTL, but without its top runner Laudermilch. If she returns, NEB could make it interesting for the top two.

District 4 Class AA Girls - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Coyla Bartholomew (Danville); Victoria Bartholomew (Danville); Sarah Bronson (Athens); Margaret Daly (Lewisburg); Sage Dunkleberger (Warrior Run); Bri Hennett (Shikellamy); Alanna Jacob (Lewisburg); Shaela Kruskie (Selinsgrove); Gabrielle Shearer (Montoursville); Olivia Solomon (Shikellamy)

Contending Teams: Danville Area; Lewisburg Area; Shikellamy; Warrior Run

The Skinny: Perennially known as one of the state's top AA districts, District 4 will have another fierce battle for the team title this year. Expect a great race between Danville and Lewisburg for the title. The teams met at both the NEPA and PHAC Invites, with Lewisburg winning at NEPA by 8 and Danville winning at PHAC by 2. It should be a very close race for the top spot between a pair of teams that should contend for top five state finishes. Those two teams are the big favorites to claim the two state qualifying spots. Shikellamy and the defending state champions from Warrior Run will look for big days to challenge for the top two.

On the individual side, Kruskie is the one to beat. It's been a terrific season for the sophomore, which has included a second place finish at Foundation and wins at NEPA and PHAC. She'll be tough to take down. Shearer has enjoyed a breakthrough season, including a second place finish at PHAC, and she leads a talented crew of Kruskie challengers -- many of which will have their sights set on state medals a week later in Hershey.
