Girls 60m Hurdles Preview
It's been almost two full years since Taleea Buxton won the first state title of her career as a freshman. Since then, her former school, Bishop McDevitt, closed and she's at a new school -- West Catholic -- and the junior added an outdoor 100m hurdle state crown to her resume this past spring.
Buxton has been the class of the hurdles this winter, running a state best 8.79. She's the only sub-9 girl in the state and she's gone sub-9 on six different occasions. That consistency bodes well for Buxton, who will be the favorite to capture her second (consecutive, since there was no state meet in 2021) 60m hurdle state title.
After that, the rest of the field is pretty tightly matched. Strath Haven's Teghan Sydnor is having a strong season, running a season best of 9.16 (PA#2). She brings some good veteran experience.
Very little separates the next few seeds, with Bishop McDevitt's Maddy Brooks (a different McDevitt than Buxton's former Wyncote-based school) and Wilmington's Lindsey Martineau both having 9.32 season bests. Central Bucks South's Felicia Oh (9.35) and Canon McMilan's Rose Kuchera (9.38) have also both run under 9.4 this winter and should challenge for a high finish.
The hurdles can always present some unpredictability and the race for the top eight final will be a good one.
