Girls High Jump Preview
Spring Ford's Nene Mokonchu has been steadily improving in the high jump over the past few years, and the senior enters the state meet looking to capture her first state title. She's jumping her best at the right time of the season; she leapt 5-6 to win the Carnival and then broke the DVGTCA Meet of Champs record with a PA#1 clearance of 5-7.5.
This should be a close competition, though.
Her top challenger will be Towanda's Porschia Bennett. She's jumped just once in competition this season, winning at Kevin Dare with a 5-5. She'll return to the Penn State infield, looking to compete for the title. Bennett won the AA state title in the high jump this past spring when she jumped 5-7 at Shippensburg. The senior is one to watch on Sunday.
South Fayette's Grace Howard has also cleared 5-5 this indoor season. The junior was seventh at the indoor state meet two years ago as a freshman. Two years later, the TSTCA champion will look to challenge for the title.
Three others have jumped bests of 5-4 this season: Warwick's Katie Becker, Carlisle's Ally Richwine, and Oil City's Baine Snyder. Richwine and Snyder have been consistently strong this season, while Becker put down a huge PR a few weeks ago and will aim to ride that momentum into Sunday.
