EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Junior Mary Dell earned national All-America honors for the second straight year as the Shippensburg University women's cross country program concluded its 2009 season on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships with a 15th-place team finish on the University of Southern Indiana's home course.

Dell concluded a memorable 2009 campaign with a 21st-place finish overall with a time of 21:32, an improvement of 62 seconds and 12 places from her performance on the snow-packed course last year in Slippery Rock. She has continued to progress as one of the best runners in Division II and ran toe-to-toe with the best in the nation on Saturday. Her season also included a third-place finish at both the conference and regional meet.

Sophomore Neely Spence was among the top two runners during the first quarter of the race but fell back into the main pack as the meet progressed. Spence, the 2009 PSAC and Atlantic Region champion, was one of the best runners in the nation during the 2009 season and served as the No. 2 runner for Shippensburg on Saturday while finishing 43rd overall with a time of 22:04.

Sophomore Sarah Strayer ran one of her best races of the season on Saturday and served as the team's No. 3 runner, finishing in 100th place with a time of 23:05. Strayer had served as the team's No. 6 and No. 7 runner in recent meets but was competing at the national meet for the second consecutive year and performed well on Saturday.

Redshirt sophomore Katie Frey has primarily served as the team's No. 4 runner this year and filled that role once again on Saturday, finishing in 128th place with a time of 23:29. Frey has been among the team's scoring runners in her first two seasons with the team and will look to make a strong impact once again next season.

Junior Emily Dubs emerged this season as a possible scoring performer and served as the No. 5 runner for Shippensburg on Saturday, earning 140th place with a time of 23:44. Dubs was the No. 6 runner for Shippensburg at the regional meet and continues to progress as a cross country competitor.

Junior Abby Huber, the team's No. 3 runner at both the PSAC meet (17th place) and the regional meet (24th place), rounded out the SU pack along with redshirt junior Lindsey Hollenshead. Huber finished in 149th place with a time of 23:56 while Hollenshead was 161st with a time of 24:08.

Shippensburg may have had a disappointing overall finish in its last meet but still has completed another memorable season in which the program won its second consecutive women's Atlantic Region Championship and its fourth overall in program history. Head coach Steve Spence and the Lady Raiders also won back-to-back conference championships en route to making the team's second straight appearance at the national championships.

All seven of Shippensburg's top runners this year are on pace to return for the 2010 season.
